According to Wallace-Hadrill, these steps led from the street to the upper flat, kitchen/passage, 4 rooms, lit from balcony.
According to Maiuri, found in the only light and airy room which was the one opening onto the open gallery, was a triclinium couch, the little front of a wooden shrine and a head also roughly carved in wood, both belonging to the domestic lararium.
According to Pesando and Guidobaldi, this apartment consisted of a small vestibule at the top of the stairs, a small recess, a cupboard/storeroom, a corridor with hearth, two rooms, and a cubiculum (bedroom) with a double bed and a small bed for a child. Also found in this small room was the little gable front of a shrine, and a female head, both of wood. The open gallery/balcony overlooking the roadway, supported by brick columns, was a natural extension of the small room on its north end. thereby extending the limited internal space of the apartment.
